Lucky is my youngest pug, justed turned 1 on July 20. His mother's name was Gretchen and she passed away a few hours after having an emergency c-section and spay. She had her puppies (7) by the time I had woke up and all were dead, still in there sacks. I moved her covers and found a pup in its sack still warm, so I ripped the sac off and started rubbing him fast with his head down. I got him back! Needless to say she was not acting right so I took her to the vet. as quick as I could around noon. They said there was a pup in her birth canal ( 8 pups her first litter!) so I told them to go ahead and spay her while she was there. I didn't want to hurt her by having anymore babies. After all she was my baby, I raised her, she was out of Abbie's first litter. They called me at 2 and said she was done so I got over there at 3 and they said she was fine that she would just be a little groggy from the anesthesia. So we came home no big deal. I tried to get her to feed the pup but she just wouldn't. She passed away at 9 that night. She never became herself again. I tried calling them, but it was a Sat. night. So i paged the emergency number several times no one ever called me back. I was heartbroken and sooo determined to make this puppy survive. My husband kept telling me not to get my hopes up but I never gave up. I named him Gretchen's Lucky Little Bug. Her nickname was Bug. He is now a healthy puppy. He acts almost identical to Gretchen although she never chewed as much as he does. I still miss Gretchen but Lucky helps me to remember her.
